Acadia Hospital President, Dan Coffey, to Retire

Brewer, Maine – (June 30, 2017) – After 40 years of service to EMHS, Acadia Hospital president, Daniel B. Coffey, has announced he will retire September 30, 2017.

Coffey began his healthcare career in 1972 at Community General Hospital in Fort Fairfield, Maine and then joined Eastern Maine Medical Center in 1976. His work ethic, intelligence, and keen analytic skills were quickly recognized, and his career development within EMHS included many different positions, with increased responsibility.

Before joining Acadia Hospital as president in 2011, he served at the system level as executive vice president, treasurer, and chief financial officer.

“While Dan has spent much of his career serving at the system level, he will most certainly be remembered for the significant turnaround the Acadia Hospital has seen under his leadership these past six years,” commented EMHS CEO Michelle Hood. “His vision, passion, and administrative skills have helped to transform the organization into a fiscally sound, innovative psychiatric facility. Dan has always spoken up for the best interests of the system, as well as Acadia Hospital, and his experience and knowledge will be greatly missed.”

In a message sent out to Acadia employees, board, and Citizens’ Advisory Council members Coffey related, “I have had a great career at EMHS that spanned 40 years, of which the last six years I spent leading Acadia Hospital and Acadia Healthcare. Acadia has represented very meaningful work for me. I am excited about Acadia’s future and feel confident that Acadia will continue to grow and serve the region. It’s been a great privilege to end my career working with such a dedicated and talented group of people.”

EMHS leadership will be working closely with the Acadia Hospital Board of Trustees to create and implement a transition plan, which will include the hiring of a new president for Acadia Hospital.
