EMHS Hospitals Named Among the Nation’s Most Wired for 2015


All eight EMHS hospitals are again at the forefront of using information technology to improve health data security and patient engagement. That is according to the results of a 2015 survey published by the American Hospital Association.
EMHS as an integrated health delivery system, and its member hospitals Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and Mercy Hospital in Portland, were recognized with the 2015 Healthcare’s Most Wired award. Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville, and Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield were each awarded Most Wired for Small and Rural Organizations. Acadia Hospital in Bangor, Inland Hospital in Waterville, and The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle were each recognized with the 2015 distinction of Most Improved.

The criteria measured by this designation provide standards for EMHS, as we work towards leveraging our investment in information technology.”
As the nation’s health delivery model transitions to one of integrated value-based care rather than volume-based care, hospitals are using information technology to better connect disparate care providers, according to the annual Health Care’s Most Wired Survey, conducted by Hospitals & Health Networks. Two growing trends the survey identified were the emphasis on improving security measures to protect patient health information, as well as improving patient engagement through tools like an online patient portal, to enable access to patient health information.  The survey assesses hospitals’ performance in four facets of information technology: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.
