Miles Theeman Retirement Announced

12/16/2014

Brewer, Maine – (December 16, 2014) – EMHS president and CEO Michelle Hood has announced the upcoming retirement of Miles Theeman, EMHS vice president, chief sales and marketing officer. Theeman’s last day will be April 4, 2015.

In making the announcement, Hood pointed to Theeman’s deep roots in Maine, and his absolute passion for serving Maine people and solving Maine problems. “Miles is highly regarded here at EMHS as well as by leaders across the state. He has been a valued member of my team since I arrived at EMHS nine years ago. I will miss his quick wit and his uncanny ability to bring people together to get things done. This retirement is well-deserved and I wish Miles and his wife, Sharon, many sunrises in their beloved Washington County," Hood commented.

Theeman arrived at EMHS in 1976 as an assistant administrator of ambulatory services and registration at Eastern Maine Medical Center. He later spent 26 years as president and CEO at Affiliated Healthcare Systems – an EMHS member organization. For the past year, Theeman has served as EMHS vice president and chief sales and marketing officer. An “exquisite run” is how Theeman sums his tenure with the system. “I leave confident in knowing that I helped light the flame of entrepreneurship and kept it burning; that the organization benefitted from those things I did well; and especially learned from those I did not.”

Theeman’s contributions go beyond his remarkable service to EMHS. He has served on the boards of a variety of civic and business organizations, such as Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Science and Technology Commission, The Bangor –Saint John Economic Corridor Committee, Mobilize Eastern Maine, University of Maine Board of Visitors, United Way of Penobscot Valley, Friends of the Arena Committee, City of Bangor Planning Board, Bangor YMCA, and Maine Maritime Academy. He also helped advance numerous development initiatives.  His leadership will be felt for many years after his retirement.

“Nothing lasts forever and it is time to turn the page on another chapter of my life,” said Theeman. “Nonetheless, I will miss the almost daily challenges and extraordinary opportunities of representing EMHS as the finest healthcare system in the nation. And, while l will miss many of the colleagues with whom I have interacted over the past 39 years, no longer having the privilege of being part of Michelle Hood’s leadership team is what I will miss most.”

EMHS is now recruiting for a senior vice president of strategy to oversee the system’s marketing initiatives, communications and public relations, and strategic planning.
