George Eaton to Join EMHS Legal Team

Brewer, ME – (September 12, 2013) - EMHS is pleased to announce that George F. Eaton II, Esquire will be joining the system as associate general counsel and senior governance advisor beginning January 1, 2014.  Eaton is a partner with the Bangor firm of Rudman Winchell, where he specializes in business and corporate law.
Eaton is no stranger to EMHS, having served on the volunteer governing boards of both EMMC and EMHS. During his tenure at each of those organizations he served as chair of the Governance Committees and subsequently was elected board chair.  “I’ve worked with George in many capacities, including as a board member and consultant.  I know him to be detail-oriented, have the right amount of firmness and flexibility, and a wonderful dry sense of humor. George also has deep roots in the Bangor community and a passion for the State of Maine; his depth of knowledge of healthcare and business law will be invaluable to our team,” said M. Michelle Hood, FACHE president and CEO of EMHS.
In his nearly 30 years of legal practice, Eaton has developed close and trusted relationships, said Glenn Martin, Esquire, EMHS vice president and general counsel. “I’ve had the privilege of working closely with George for a long time; his wide range of legal skills, business acumen, as well as his expertise in governance issues will bring a new and welcome dimension to EMHS legal services. His friendly, easy demeanor and prior experience working with EMHS will help him make a smooth transition.”
“I’ve been associated with EMHS in a number of roles for a number of years, and I am also a healthcare consumer in the system,” said Eaton. “I know EMHS to be dynamic, a national leader, and committed to serving the people of Maine with the right care, at the right time, and in the right place. There are many talented people doing great work on behalf of EMHS and I look forward to joining them in January. I will be leaving a firm comprised of extraordinarily talented people who seem to me as much like family as professional colleagues, and I will miss being part of what I know will be continued growth and prosperity for the firm.”
A native of Bangor, George graduated from Bowdoin College in 1981. He is a 1984 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law, where he served as editor-in-chief of Maine Law Review.  He has been recognized several times as a leading corporate lawyer in Chambers USA and in America's Best Lawyers.
