EMHS Members Celebrate Community Volunteers - April 21- 27

(Bangor, ME) – EMHS is proud to celebrate National Volunteer Week, April 21-27. Throughout central, eastern, and northern Maine, EMHS members have many dedicated volunteers that are committed to helping to serve our patients and community. In Greater Bangor, Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) Volunteer Services, Rosscare, and EMHS recognize the people in our community who take time out of their day to lend a helping hand. Whether it’s calling seniors to ensure they are well, assisting our many individual departments, or a warm greeting by a patient’s bedside, volunteers brighten the day for many of our community members.
Our organizations depend on volunteers to keep their programs going strong. Jennifer Maskala, manager for Rosscare’s Telecare and LiveSAFE programs, is very thankful for the volunteers who come in weekly to provide free daily check in calls for Bangor area seniors. “Telecare’s most senior volunteer has been with the program almost 37 years. We have eight volunteers who have been with the Telecare program for more than five years, and we just welcomed our two newest volunteers. What we all have in common is our motivation to help seniors in our community. Our loyal volunteers have kept the Telecare program operational, and every volunteer deserves recognition for their contributions and outstanding service this week and every day throughout the year.”
Martha Wildman, director of EMMC Volunteer Services also commented on how volunteers have provided invaluable support to EMMC patients. “Our EMMC volunteers give selflessly each and every day. Whether escorting patients, packaging cookies, helping patients find resources, or providing a smile and a listening ear, our volunteers are a vital part of our patient care team. We celebrate their tremendous impact during National Volunteer Week and throughout the year.”
