Waterville CPA is New Chairman of the Board

6/20/2011

BREWER, ME - (June 20, 2011) - A Waterville accountant has been elected chairman of the EMHS Board of Directors. P. James Nicholson, CPA was elected at the EMHS annual meeting of directors held June 16 in Brewer. Evelyn Silver of Bangor was elected vice-chair.

Nicholson, of China Village, succeeds George F. Eaton II, Esq. of Bangor. Chairman Nicholson is active in his community, serving on many local boards and committees, and is a past trustee and chairman of Inland Hospital’s Board of Trustees. Inland is a member of EMHS. Nicholson stated that he is stepping in the chairman’s role at an excellent time, “The system is energized right now. There’s a lot going on and much of the credit for that has to go to my predecessor, George Eaton – he’s teed the ball up and now this board needs to see it down the fairway. I thank him for all he has done for the system, and all he continues to do. ” Nicholson also added that Eaton was a strong proponent of the EMHS vision to be ‘the best rural healthcare system in America by 2012’ and he looks forward to seeing that vision to fruition next year.

In addition to electing a slate of directors, a slate of corporators was also approved. Two-Hundred people from throughout central, eastern, and northern Maine serve as EMHS corporators. They are expected to participate in educational programs on healthcare, and with the board, they choose both directors and fellow corporators. EMHS president and CEO, Michelle Hood also reported on the progress and challenges of the past year, and thanked EMHS employees for all they do – especially in such a “challenging” healthcare environment. Hood also gave a special thanks to the Board of Directors, and corporators for giving generously of their time and expertise so EMHS can achieve its goals.
