Music Saved Me!

(Bangor, Maine) - Expect a rockin’ good time at Husson College this Friday, April 01, 2011. The Husson/NESCom chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is hosting Music Saved Me - featuring six local bands, including; Legend Has It, Sam and Yuri, Mines of Paris, The Thriftways, Average At Best, and Fancy Devil. The show hosts, comedians Adam Hatch and Jeremy White are guaranteed to have you laughing.

Proceeds raised from Music Saved Me will benefit pediatric oncology at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Show organizer, Erin Falwell, is a survivor of Acute Leukemia Syndromes. She was diagnosed in March 2004 at the age of 14. Coincidently, she began her life-saving treatments on April 1, 2004, so the timing of this Friday’s show is especially poignant for her. Erin received chemotherapy for more than two years, and during that time got to know other children who were also receiving treatments - many of them were much younger than Erin. A native of New Hampshire, Erin traveled two hours to receive her chemotherapy, and recalls how it changed her family’s life, “During my treatments, I was told there would be good days and bad days, and I found this to be true. My parents would alternate staying the night with me, still trying to work full time. Eventually, my mother had to take the first summer of my treatment off from work.”

A personal understanding of what families go through with a diagnosis of cancer or leukemia is what’s driving Erin to pay it forward. “I remember during my very first night in the hospital I listened to my favorite songs over and over and the music seemed to set me free from my weak body. That’s where the name ‘Music Saved Me’ came from. I want to help other patients get what they need to help get them through their treatments.”

Erin and co-organizers, Selma Basic, Dani Felt, and Ericka York have received passes to the Maine Discovery Museum, a night at The Charles Inn, a gift card to Knapp's Music Center, and many others donations from Bangor area businesses. Show attendees also have the opportunity to win an iPod shuffle, a life-size Justin Bieber cut-out, and a variety of gift cards.

Music Saved Me is 7pm this Friday, April first, at the Furman Center on the campus of Husson College. Join us for a rockin’ good time – no joke!
