Best Selling Author TR Reid to Speak in Bangor

Dispelling the Myth – How America can Achieve High Quality, Lower Cost Healthcare

(Brewer, ME) - October 11, 2011 - There perhaps is no other topic that has led to more impassioned discussions than that of healthcare. From access and cost, to insurance and reform, healthcare affects everyone.

EMHS and Husson University are cosponsoring a very special breakfast with author TR Reid, a former reporter with the Washington Post and commentator for National Public Radio. Reid’s book, The Healing of America – A Global Quest for Better, Cheaper and Fairer Health Care – is a New York Times best-seller and chronicles Reid’s journey, chronicles Reid’s journey around the world seeking treatment for an injured shoulder. His journey sheds light on the varied systems of healthcare, and his opinion on what works and what does not. The Healing of America raises important issues about our national health delivery system and ways it could be improved.

Reid’s knowledge of healthcare delivery and his ability to have a conversation with his audience makes for an entertaining and informing discussion. Members of the media are welcome to cover his only Bangor appearance, at Husson’s Gracie Theatre, on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 8 am. Registration and breakfast hors d’oeuvres begin at 7:15 am.

Reid’s Bangor visit is part of a weeklong tour through Maine sponsored by the Maine Health Management Coalition Foundation, the Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership and the Maine Health Access Foundation, with support from Aligning Forces for Quality, Maine Medical Association, Maine Osteopathic Association, AARP, Maine Quality Counts and the Maine Development Foundation.
