2011 Community Health Needs Assessment Reports

In 2010, One Maine Health, a collaborative of EMHS, MaineHealth, and Maine General, commissioned the University of New England’s Center for Health Planning and Policy Research and the Muskie School at the University of Southern Maine to conduct a state-wide Community Health Needs Assessment. The study was conducted to identify the most important health issues in the state and by county, using a scientific method to validate health indicators and to compare results. The assessment identifies priority health issues, which will be best addressed by health providers working collaboratively.

The CHNA looks at health status, barriers to care, and other demographic and social issues affecting people and organizations throughout Maine. The in-depth report will also help communities make decisions about the future of healthcare and prevention in Maine by identifying problems in various regions. The CHNA identifies one of the bigger issues facing Maine as chronic disease, e.g. diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer. Results are summarized by county.

Over the next several months, community forums were held to discuss county results and to discuss ideas for improving health status challenges.

We encourage all users to find valuable and relevant information in the reports.
